TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre Renovations

Project Overview

The TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre Renovations project involved a series of coordinated interior upgrades and amenity enhancements to improve community access, functionality, and aesthetics within this active, public-facing recreational facility. While modest in scale, projects like this are vital to the communities they serve—Atkinson Construction approaches every job with the same care, commitment, and collaboration, because small projects matter.

Scope of Work

Lounge & Meeting Room Reconfiguration

As a central feature of the project, ACL reconfigured underutilized interior space to create a new public meeting room and lounge area, expanding the Centre’s community programming capacity. Work included new gypsum board wall assemblies with steel framing, repainting and flooring transitions, integration of a new aluminum entrance door and full hardware package, and removal of existing window shutters and casework to accommodate the new access corridor.

Custom Millwork Installations

ACL designed, built, and installed two custom millwork components to enhance functionality and serviceability. The first was a multi-height reception counter at the Shotz Lounge, which included a swinging service gate, integrated drawers, cabinetry, and electrical cutouts. The second was a full-height custom cabinet package in the Parkland Room, providing secure, accessible storage with durable melamine finishes that align with existing facility aesthetics.

Wall-Mounted TV Enclosure

A new TV wall enclosure was constructed in the lounge using thermo-fused melamine panels, supported by concealed backing and a trimless design. This enclosure provides a clean, durable, and tamper-resistant solution for multimedia displays in a prominent public area

Door Upgrades

ACL completed several door-related upgrades throughout the facility. This included the installation of a new aluminum-framed entrance door with sidelite to improve lounge access, construction of wall infill where openings were removed, and the replacement of aging locker room doors to enhance durability, accessibility, and security.

Mechanical & Electrical Adjustments

Minor mechanical and electrical adjustments were completed to accommodate the new layouts and ensure system continuity. This included re-routing of sprinkler heads, workstation electrical modifications, and reconnections necessary for lighting, power, and data within the renovated areas.

The Tri Leisure Centre Renovations reflect Atkinson Construction’s ongoing relationship with the facility and its commitment to client-focused, detail-oriented work in operational public environments. Through careful planning, phased execution, and responsive collaboration, ACL successfully delivered a refreshed set of public amenities that enhance user experience while maintaining the Centre’s day-to-day programming.
