Atkinson Construction delivered the full design-build of a new 12,000+ square foot office and shop facility for Barricades and Signs, a key provider of traffic safety equipment and services across Alberta. Purpose-built to support operational growth and logistics efficiency, the facility consolidates administrative functions and equipment servicing into one high-performance structure.
Working collaboratively with the client from conceptual planning through to project completion, ACL led all aspects of design integration, construction, and site development—ensuring a durable, efficient, and adaptable workplace that meets both current operational needs and future expansion potential.
Scope of work
Design-Build Delivery
ACL led a fully integrated design-build process, engaging with the client and consultants from the outset to establish design intent, operational flow, and technical requirements—resulting in a streamlined project path with minimized redesign and improved cost certainty.
Site Development
Full site preparation was completed including grading, underground services, and access development, establishing a functional and organized layout for daily operations and fleet circulation.
Concrete Foundations
The project included construction of reinforced concrete foundations and slab-on-grade to support heavy equipment use in both the shop and yard areas.
Pre-Engineered Steel Building Construction
The facility was constructed using a pre-engineered steel building system, offering speed of delivery and long-term durability. The structure integrates:
A large shop floor with high-bay clearances for equipment servicing and storage
Two-storey administrative offices with enclosed workspaces, washrooms, kitchen, and meeting rooms
Support areas for staff, equipment, and materials management
